Kathleen
Willison - Vocals
Tim Whitehead - Tenor sax
Gwilym Simcock - Piano
Kathleen Willison and Gwilym Simcock first met at the Royal Academy
of Music whilst studying there on the Bmus undergraduate jazz
course, and immediately struck up a rapport. The December following
Kathleen’s graduation, renowned UK tenor saxophonist Tim
Whitehead invited her to "sit-in" with him at the 606
Jazz Club. He was so impressed that for the first time in years
he decided to ask a singer to work with him as a regular member
of his quintet and sextet. Later, he heard Gwilym play and handpicked
him to join his New Standards Quartet, quintet and sextet, TW6.
The trio has been working together in different capacities for
over 3 years.

TIM
WHITEHEAD
Exceptional tenor saxophonist Tim Whitehead
has been a consistently creative part of the UK jazz scene since
the late 70’s – having been a member of Ian Carr’s
Nucleus and a founder member of Loose Tubes. He is a regular on
the jazz circuit, performs monthly at the 606 Club, and has played
regularly at Ronnie Scott’s, London. His highly acclaimed
album Personal Standards was the only jazz album nominated by
the BBC Music Magazine for album of the year 2000 and revisits
the tunes he grew up with from Marvin Gaye’s What’s
Going On to Joe Zawinal’s In a Silent Way. His most recent
work includes a piece in progress entitled 'Tides'. This work
is a collaboration with contemporary classical composer Colin
Riley. Colin and Tim are the recent recipients of the Peter Whittingham
Award for this project. An album of the same title was released
in May 2002 on the Homemade label. They received London Arts funding
to put on a series of concerts in London featuring the Homemade
Orchestra and collaborators – Sept 2002, album launch at
Ronnie Scott’s; Oct 2002, Spitz Club; March 2003, Mill Hill
School and the Purcell Room. They will be touring their second
album INSIDE COVERS in Spring 2004 with funding from the Arts
Council of England. www.timwhitehead.co.uk

GWILYM
SIMCOCK
Pianist in the winning Perrier Jazz Band (2002), rising star Gwilym
Simcock is one of the finest of the latest crop of young players.
A recent graduate from the Royal Academy of Music, he is a fluent
and highly inventive player in the classic Jazz tradition, and
his powerful piano playing adds class to any group that he's in.
This gifted instrumentalist (he has played French Horn in Kenny
Wheeler’s Big Band and NYJO!) is without question one of
the most exciting talents to emerge in recent years. He has recently
replaced the great John Horler in Malcolm Creese’s Acoustic
Triangle, and is a composer on their new album CATALYST.
He also performs with a number of top British jazz musicians inclucing
Tim Whitehead, Bill Bruford, Stan Sulzmann and the Lawrence Cottle
Big Band
